Alternative BSMs: the search for vector-like quarks at the LHC

abstract

The discovery of a light Higgs boson has severely constrained popular beyond standard model theories like supersymmetry. Nonetheless, understanding the mechanism of electroweak symmetry breaking remains a defining goal of the Large Hadron Collider. Several alternative models postulate the existence of vector-like top quark partners to stabilize the mass of the Higgs boson. We will discuss the recent searches for these exotic quarks using the LHC data collected by the CMS experiment.
