The Department of Physics and Geology at the University of Perugia is an international leader in research and education in Physics. With approximately 100 members, including faculty, research staff, postdoctoral fellows, and PhD students, we are committed to training the next generation of physicists, who will take part in research aimed at investigating the great and unresolved questions of life and the Universe, while at the same time contributing to the development of practical solutions to technological challenges.
Following the three-year Bachelor's Degree in Physics, which provides a comprehensive general foundation, the subsequent two-year Master's Degree in Physics is designed to equip students with the skills needed to address the most advanced frontiers of fundamental research, while also helping them apply basic physical principles to nearly all the technological challenges they may encounter in their diverse careers.
At the same time, faculty members are dedicated to presenting students with the best and most recent developments in fundamental research, offering—alongside formal lectures—a wide range of specialized seminars and special laboratory projects. Thanks also to collaborations with research institutions located within our Department (the National Institute for Nuclear Physics, the National Research Council, the Italian Space Agency, and the National Institute for Astrophysics) and to funding from the European Community, we are able to maintain top-level research laboratories and computing facilities.
Our academic programs and the Department’s particularly welcoming facilities allow the students to form highly active groups. Student groups within the Department organize conferences, laboratory visits, and social and sports events. These activities complement the academic programs and enable new students to enjoy a complete and exciting study experience.
