New Directions in Nuclear Deep Inelastic Scattering
abstract

Recent experimental and theoretical ideas are laying the ground for a new era in nuclear deep inelastic scattering. Novel coincidence measurements at high luminosity facilities, such as Jefferson Lab (JLab), have become possible, pointing out the nucleus as a laboratory for QCD studies, in a top-down approach. Issues like the extraction of the neutron information from light nuclei, the measurement of nuclear parton distributions, mandatory for the analysis of nucleus-nucleus scattering aimed at producing quark-gluon plasma, or the
phenomenon of in-medium fragmentation, crucial to unveil the dynamics of hadronization, will be investigated with unprecedented accuracy. Besides, the detection of multiple parton collisions in proton-nucleus scattering at the LHC could unveil the three-dimensional proton structure. The new exciting scenario is completed by the nice perspectives within lattice QCD, facing nuclear structure in a bottom-up approach. The Workshop is aimed at improving collaborations between theorists and experimentalists, working with electroweak and strong probes. Besides the presentation of recent results, an emphasis will be put on the preparation of experiments at JLab, CERN and at a future electron-ion collider.
